Hannah's First Prom

On February 13th, I had tucked myself into bed early. Tyler was out of town and I needed my rest, but I woke up at 10:30 to find Hannah still upstairs with the lights on. I went to ask her to go to bed and she said, "I think I just got asked to prom".  A peek out the window by the door revealed this:

She was in her duck pajamas and didn't want to go onto the porch and be seen in them. I convinced her to wrap herself up in a blanket, we turned off the porch lights, and just as she was going to head out I saw someone walking back up to the door - she had taken too long to answer the door!  I hurriedly flicked the lights to warn the delivery guy and when it was clear she retrieved her things.

By the way, we did have an ongoing bet that she would be asked to prom - I bet that she would and she bet that she wouldn't. A few days after her first invite, she got called down to the office and found this:

I basically have eternal bragging rights.

I wish that I took a picture of her responses.  To the first invite, she got a box of dates, packaged them with yummy Mona bars, and wrote a note that said, "It's a date! But dates are gross, so here are some cookies."  She felt so badly about having to decline her second invitation and consulted Callie. She settled on Callie's idea of an umbrella with a very nice note saying "raincheck" and more cookies. Fernando thanked her for being so nice about saying no.

This is the Hannah of yore. She accurately described herself when she would say "I'm exciting!" Of course, she meant that she was excited, but the first version was correct, too.  She was a bundle of energy and personality and was quite a handful.

I certainly had no idea then that she would turn out so stunningly beautiful, graceful, and gracious. Here we go: picture overload of the girl whose motto is "what would Kate do?"

Kate might not twirl for the public, but Daddy requested a twirl.

She carries herself confidently and is very poised for a 16-year-old. I am always impressed with how she interacts with other people. When we were shopping for her prom dress, a teenaged girl was helping her. We told her that it was Hannah's first prom and she wanted to know what grade Hannah was in. She was shocked to hear that she is in 10th grade - she thought Hannah was a senior!

This young lady blesses our lives each and every day! It is a joy to have her in our family, and I'd say she is turning out to be pretty fantastic. We sure love our Hannah!

Her date, Nathaneal, was very nice. We thought it was so kind of him to make sure that their group dinner was food that Hannah could have. Her corsage was gorgeous - wish I got a picture!

Tyler was proud of his photo bomb.

Ready to go!
