Friday morning around 8am Drew bounced into the kitchen and vaulted himself onto a stool, except the vault went awry and I watched as first his ear crashed into the counter, and then his head took on a stool before he just up, started wailing, and ran out of the room. I was in the middle of making breakfast and he has a tendency to be excitable, so I served up the siblings before going to check him over. There was blood on his shirt, and his ear, and his chin, and from what I could tell it wasn't deep but it wasn't closing up very well, either. I felt blessed that
1) it didn't appear to be too bad
2) I wasn't scheduled to teach preschool that morning
3) we have fantastic neighbors. Jacob and Camden caught a ride to school and Emmie was able to wait for a few minutes at Everett's house until his mom could take them to preschool. The doctor was able to get us in at just the perfect time.
The good news is, glue works really well on shallow cuts and no stitches were needed. Drew was also very brave.
He was glued up in no time (purple glue, no less), and ready to head to school. He does have a neat little scar, but it doesn't take away at all from that handsome smile of his.
Then on Saturday, we got to bring back the tradition of going to the Messiah Sing-In! Hooray for the new group that has taken that on as it is a beautiful experience. We had to take a selfie to let Callie see what she was missing.
It was Drew's first time attending and he did okay for awhile, but by the time we sang the Hallelujah chorus he was a bit rowdy and just down-right bored (Tyler even had to take him to the back of the balcony). Well, the soprano was in the middle of singing her final solo and made it to the very last note, but it started to go really flat. I looked at her, saw her put her hand on the rail next to her, and realized all of the sudden that she was going to faint. AND SHE DID. She fell right off her stand. Then things got a bit exciting. The EMTs came. She revived and seemed okay, but since she hit her head pretty good they took her to get checked out. They carried out the final two numbers (and said she would be upset if they didn't finish), and Drew didn't have any trouble sitting for those.
