Just biding our time

I have begun to get reckless. Seeing as Murphy's Law seems to rule my life, and we have been keeping our calendar open in case the baby comes, the new theory to test this week was to see if we fill it up, then maybe the baby would come. It hasn't worked yet. Maybe I didn't make serious enough commitments.

Each new day when I am full of good cheer in the morning I think to myself, since the baby isn't here, what is it that I'm supposed to do today? Usually those thoughts get lost in the chaos of the day, but some good things have come out of waiting. For one thing, we are still getting some good sleep. That change is going to be a shocker. Other good things:

A nice lunch out with Tyler -- hooray that the baby did NOT come on our anniversary. Callie adds that she's glad she kept her own birthday.

I was available to take Callie in for a test at school. Apparently we didn't get a notice in the mail, and found out the day before. She spent 2 1/2 hours in the assessment, and declares she is ready for school to begin again.

I was around to see dark purple ooze coming out of our very full outdoor freezer that I worked so hard to stock with food. It has been acting funny for awhile, but it wasn't very funny yesterday to find lots of thawed-out food. The repairman announced that all systems were failing and we spent a couple of hours shopping for a new freezer. I feel like I've already taken great advantage of my free kid-watching offers and our baby isn't even here yet. I still feel very grateful that the freezer died before the baby came, that I could go with Tyler to pick out a new one, and while the one we wanted is out of stock and can't come for a few weeks, we have some very nice friends with an almost empty freezer. Last night Tyler and I had a great time taking wagon loads of food over to their house. The idea was to sneak in another walk, but for trip #2 we towed the wagon behind their four wheeler. That was way too much fun and a missed Kodak moment.

Today if I had things my way I'd probably be frantically sewing, cleaning, hanging pictures...instead I decided that the children are stir crazy from all of my efforts of the last week, so we went to the petting zoo instead, and invited friends over for the afternoon. One last day of "normal" before we turn our family life upside down for awhile. It's been enjoyable. I love these kiddos.
