Discoveries of a Delighted Mama

I wish my skills as a photographer, and the capacity of my camera, could capture some of the treasures I've discovered over the last few days with little Camden. I think, however, some things can only be sensed by our spirits and much of my delight in mothering this little guy comes through that means. I can not get enough of observing him and getting to know him. Some things I've discovered:

He has an elusive dimple on his right cheek. I am really, really hoping that we will see it more when he's ready to start smiling. It is adorable. Dad just caught a glimpse of it last night, and Callie has also been a witness.

He has got perfect ears. They are tiny and perfectly formed and lie so nicely against his little head. I'm not one to notice ears in particular, but he's got some handsome ones.

His nostrils are triangular shaped. For real. How's that for unique? Never seen that before!

He is the second individual on my side of the family that I've noticed that has really long toes. I'm not sure they are quite as long as cousin Brian's, but Brian -- you've got a friend in Camden.

Lastly, now that the eye ointment has begun to take effect and his eyes are clearing up, we are finding that they are the traditional baby blue eyes. Another bonus of the eyes de-gooping is that now his eyelashes are unfurling. While not as thick or dark or even as long as Drew's, he's got some pretty lashes of his own. We are three for three in the boy department of beautiful eyes. I have cashiers comment on my boys' eyes at stores all the time. It's nice to know that Camden won't have to feel left out of that.

The adoring fans...

the first time meeting baby brother in the hospital. Since Jacob is the oldest brother Daddy said he got to hold Camden first. I don't know if you can see the other pairs of outstretched, anxious arms or not.

Callie picked out fabric on my due date to make a receiving blanket for Camden. She picked a fancy stitch to go around the edge that ended up taking a couple of hours to do, but she persevered and completed it so that I could pack it in the hospital bag and have it be the first blanket from home that we wrapped Camden in -- shown here.

Can you feel the love? Drew LOVES his baby brother. He also loves (and is sporting) the bracelet that I wore to remember which side to begin feedings on. Those days are over now -- we've switched to the bottle.

Jacob has self-proclaimed the brothers to be "the three caballeros". He had a little help with the terminology from the old Disney video that he loves to watch. Doesn't this look like a fun group to observe over the next couple of decades? I think so!

Hannah is the budding photographer in the family. I can count on her to run and get the camera and take a picture when I think Camden is looking particularly adorable -- her artistry is the next photo.

I think he's perfect. Our family wouldn't be complete without him.

Well I was wondering what I've been missing out on, having not spent so much time on the computer this summer - turns out I've missed a lot! Congratulations! Love the name, love the baby. Good work. And Hannah's photography skills are great and I can't believe that you have such a chef and seamstress in Callie already. The rest of you kids look positively giant next to the new addition.

Anyhow, we're kind of itching to come to Utah so hopefully we'll get to see you all in the flesh at some point.

Seeing him almost makes me want to have another baby. Almost. I can't wait to come over and see him. Soon...is next week too soon?

Congratulations, Suzanne & Tyler! He is perfect and your family is beautiful, and I miss you. I'm so glad I finally found you, at least digitally! (I've driven through your neighborhood a few times, but still haven't been able to figure out which is your house, so that I can stop and say hi.)
