Our Halloween celebrating began this year when Tyler ran in the 5K Fun Run, dressed up like a retro pilot. Pretty good since he had to throw a costume together in just a few minutes. Sorry the run was lonely -- maybe I'll get to run with you next year!
Costume on the fly #2 -- last minute notice that he needed to dress up as a character from Jaws for work resulted in this very lovely shark hat.
Camden wasn't showing an inclination to anything in particular. I was waffling between dressing him up to be a cowboy with Drew or using the old stand-by puppy dog costume when we were at the dollar store and he went wild over a "firefighter hat". I bought it and let him have a lot of fun. It lasted a few hours before his brother gave him a nice whack on the head with something hard that shattered some pieces out of the top. The day of Halloween we were once again at the dollar store and he went just as crazy over the hat again. I thought to myself, what can I do to dress this little guy up at a firefighter since he loves it so much? I was so blessed -- after a quick google image search and great inspiration I pulled out some pants & a coat that matched, bought yellow duct tape and created the cutest little costume at the 11th hour -- it was done just in time for trick-or-treating at Daddy's office.
He just LOVES this hat.
"Yee-haw!" Just like brother Drew only as a firefighter.
I am biased. But I still think this was just the cutest little firefighter out there trick-or-treating.
Found this horse costume at a yard sale -- we stopped after an early morning soccer game as we were rushing to make it in time to assemble kits at SWS. I happened to see it as we drove by and it was the right size. A $30 costume for $10, thank you very much! I have had my eye on this for Drew for years but he needed to be big enough to fit in the smallest size. He loved it that first day and wore it everywhere. Then what he wanted to be changed every day. A "black iron man", batman, super man, a puppy dog...
YEE-HAW! I told him all I needed was a picture and then he could be whatever he wanted to be, provided it was already at our house. We got him all fixed up, took some pictures, and then he promptly ran inside and put his puppy dog costume over his cowboy gear. This would be his FOURTH year in a row as a dog. We got our money's worth out of that one! It ended at his waist instead of his knees and I scrubbed off enough mustache & chin stubble so that we could do a black nose & spots and he was sure happy. I think he got embarrassed at the Primary Halloween party when everyone went ga-ga over the most adorable cowboy there ever has been and had enough of that.
And here we have a happy kangaroo. Jacob bought this at a neighbor's yard sale when I was out of town in September. He was so proud to use his own money but the BEST part is that he could put candy into his pouch. He loved that.
A new school meant hundreds of kids that haven't seen the banana costume yet. "If I had a dollar for every time I heard someone say, 'Hey, look at the banana!' I'd be richer than Bill Gates." She loves it -- Hannah thinks funny and unique costumes are the best and I think she even liked it when she had to wear it into Walmart but she would never admit that! I tried to get her to sing a little "buy bananas" jingle...no such luck. Thank you Hannah for being such a good spot and going for round two in the banana!
This cute girl's mom said teenagers are too old to trick-or-treat and if you want to dress up you get to make it and pay for it yourself. So she did just that! I was her verbal pattern for her Little Red cape and she did a fantastic job stitching it all up. I can see this costume being re-used for many years down the road...you never know when it may come in handy someday! She was going to wear a cute dress but after a shopping trip decided to go as Sassy Teenager Red. What a grown-up girl! Callie hosted a gathering of friends at our house and while I made the treats she was happy to assist and frosted some cute cookies with what we had on hand. It's so fun to have kids that are getting so grown-up!
I love this adorable group of people!
No pictures of me. I dressed up as a frazzled mom that never quite made it out of all of her pajamas. Oh, wait -- I do that a lot! Between running to a Halloween parade for Jacob, shopping for last-minute stuff, getting over being sick, making a firefighter costume, baking for the teen treats that night, bargaining to get pictures of a cowboy, school pick-ups, making dinner and taking the kids to trick-or-treat at the office (and we had to jump the van to get it started and then fight crazy traffic to get over there) there wasn't time for much else. I did manage to throw on jeans & a shirt & hat and tried to greet Tyler's co-workers with a smile. That smile turned genuine once dinner was cleaned up, and we could set the treats out for Callie's gathering and just enjoy the evening. Record moderate temperatures made for a really fun -and late- night. It ended when Camden, who didn't eat any dinner, threw up all over his firefighter costume. Too much candy! Hooray for another memorable Halloween celebration!
