The Joy of Animals

You know how sometimes as a teenager at church they have you list qualities that you are interested in your future spouse having? I made several of those lists, and one thing that was important to me was that my husband have a love for animals. Well, I got that from Tyler with a vengeance! In over a decade of marriage that has meant a lot of work, an extra dirty house, and hassle and sacrificing of other things that "normal" people do, but it has also brought so much joy. This quality has been passed on to each of our children and there is not a happier sight than to see them cuddle up with a baby duck, squeal over playing catch with the dog, or seeing them be comfortable and gentle with any creature from bugs to horses.

I think there is a sign invisible to me that invites neighbors & friends to bring all stray critters to our house for love and care. When I stop to think about it, I'm very happy that we've got that reputation. It seems like how the Savior would be. On the other hand, I'm happy to share that responsibility with anyone else that's ready to take it on!!! I mention this because yesterday Tyler adopted a wild baby duck. "Doug" has gotten a lot of love and handling over the last 24 hours. Animals bring us a lot of joy, mixed in with lots of opportunities to learn to share. Look at all the waiting hands to love on the duck!

I know 4 chickens that would love for your yard to be their new home. You know their owners, too.
