First stop: FAMILY!

Nothing says vacation like leaving a cold winter and going to find some sunshine.

We started off our January 2020 Family Vacation by piling into the van around 5am on a Saturday morning. Jacob was hoping to get some nighttime driving hours in, but it was a foggy morning. He drove us to the freeway entrance and then Tyler and Jacob switched seats. After 45 minutes of intense fog, it seemed to lift and Tyler pulled over to let Jacob have another turn. Jacob hadn't been driving for more than a couple of minutes when the fog returned. It felt pretty sketchy, and despite the early hour I was not about to close my eyes and try to sleep with a student driver at the wheel and poor visibility! The conditions were scary but he handled them well. The fog followed us, off and on, all the way into Arizona. I felt really blessed that we were able to travel in safety.

Were my kids excited to go to Disneyland? Sure. But what is even better? COUSINS! And Tyler is more entertaining and a better ride than half the rides at Disney.

We were thrilled that most of the family was able to gather at Mom & Dad's for some great family time. They aren't on the way to California, but it was well worth the extra 10 hours or so in the car.

Uncle Aaron always makes an effort to have motorized vehicles functioning, gassed up, and ready to ride. Seeing Emmie on this bike made my heart flip-flop and a phrase came to my mind. "She looks like a wart on a pickle." That's what my Grandma S. said about my mom when she was this same age, riding around on her own motorbike.

You know that you've played hard and had a good day when you are able to sleep in this position.

The best part is written in my heart and not in a picture. We got to attend church together on Sunday. Rhett asked Drew and Ethan to help him pass the Sacrament. Seeing those three cousins serve together was special.

On Monday morning before we left for California, we spent some time in the yard with Grandpa and Grandma, sorting & stacking wood. We're weird, but our family enjoys it.

The boys helped a bit but the draw to the vehicles was strong. If something has a motor, my boys are obsessed.

The 40 or so hours that we were there were too short. All of the kids wanted to stay longer.
