Growing like a Weed

There have literally been times in the last 6 months that we have sent Jacob to bed, and when we see him in the morning he is visibly taller. His feet have grown 4 full sizes in the past year.

We had a bet going - if he was taller than me before he turned 14, I would buy him lunch. If he was still shorter than me when he turned 14, he would buy me lunch. He was taller than me by the time he was 13 1/2.

I took him out for his belated lunch a couple of weeks ago. He had been eyeing some coupons for Kentucky Fried Chicken that came in the mail and so that seemed like a good place to go. As I got in the car to take him to lunch, he was sitting in the passenger seat reading a book. I asked if I should go get my book and he said no and put his down. We could have had a reading date, but it was a lot more fun to visit with him and we had a great time.

He ate about 2,000 calories for lunch!!

Before

After

This was his first time at KFC and he didn't know whether to choose original or extra crispy. I told him what his dad would choose, and he agreed - extra crispy all the way. He also told me that he was willing to eat anything on the menu should I want to force KFC on him in the future.

A couple of weeks after the lunch, we figured out that he is also taller than Hannah now.

In order to be the tallest person in the family, he just needs to grow taller than Dad. It's not that far away! No bets this time around - we are all guessing that it will happen while he's 15.
