Homecoming for Callie, Round 2:
Callie has a lot of fun with the guys from work. Michael goes to the rival high school and Callie had an idea that he was going to ask her. Life got busy and the ask turned out to be a text the week of the dance. However, when he came to pick her up he made up for it with a fun poster.
Callie had a super fun night, and we were glad that we could be here this time around (for her Homecoming we were at Mandi's wedding reception).
These socks belong to Drew. I do not know how many days he has worn them in a row. I do know that several times this week I have noticed the same mismatched pair on his feet and asked him to change into clean ones.
Drew has an aversion to wearing shoes outside, and rarely thinks to remove his socks, so all of these holes could very well have happened in one day. I have an aversion to buying new socks every couple of months because of such careless behavior, so we have a deal - I buy new socks once a year and he can buy any refills that he needs in the interim. He has had to do this once already this year, but he seems to think that it's not time to buy new ones yet. Did I mention that he was wearing these as a pair? Can you tell that they don't exactly match? They would be because their pairs got holey and the laundress threw them away.
All week long we have been trying to decorate for Halloween. This is very important to children #5 and #6. It has come slowly, in stages for the busy mother. I did find these cute owl ornaments that I thought would be a fun touch since we had most of the supplies. Yesterday we carved out some time to sit down and make them together, and I'm glad we did. We wanted it to be one of those accomplish a few things days but not be too rushed. The owl part may have been the only non-rushed part of the day!
We also: sent Tyler to the 6am session of the temple, I woke Jacob up at 7 to go put up flags at his Webelos leader's house (he was killed in a tragic car crash the day before), I did yoga, Jacob and Tyler went to football practice at 9am and picked up Callie's boutinniere on the way home, Callie went to work a little after 9am and got home at 4:30, Hannah and I tried unsuccessfully to get two projects completed and put away, Hannah worked for about 5 hours on a history project and vacuumed out Tyler's car, Tyler rented a chipper and worked for a couple of hours chipping tons of branches in a neighbor's yard, Tyler picked raspberries from the garden, Jacob mowed the lawn, I painted some frames that I got at DI and finished putting up our Halloween pictures, Drew and Camden had two friends who used to be neighbors run around the neighborhood and creek with them (and in and out and in and out and in and out of our house), Tyler took the 4 littles to Chick-Fil-A to let them use coupons from school, I dropped off choir music, Callie got ready for homecoming in record time and I managed to burn dinner twice with valid distractions (quesidillas - and we discovered during our late dinner that I forgot to put cheese in one of them!), After dinner and tucking, Tyler and I ran out to buy a blouse for my upcoming reunion and snagged some produce on sale at the grocery store at 9:30pm. But don't worry, I had the kitchen clean by 11:30pm and then I got to sit down and relax until Callie got home from her date.
Aren't these owls cute? I will think about the fun I had with my sweet and silly children every time I look at them.
Hannah completed her insect collection and turned it in. I can hardly believe it is over! All of the cups and glasses are back in our cupboard, there is no longer an insect mortuary in my freezer, and now when we find insects, we don't need to catch them. Emmie was so good to point out any bugs she saw. "Let's catch it for Hannah's collection," she'd say. Hannah is glad that her room no longer stinks, but she says the Honors Bio room smells pretty gross now. Her preliminary score is 220 out of 200, and that bothers her "because now I'll have over 100 in that class and it won't match with the 100's in my other classes". OCD problems.
General Conference.
This was probably the quiestest conference weekend that we've had since Callie was tiny (although if you've seen Tyler's YouTube video of us during the rest song of the final session of conference you may question that analysis). One reason - there was no company staying with us. Another and more likely reason is that our children are getting a bit older. My two older boys have been asking for a puzzle to do so I picked one up from DI and they worked diligently through the first one and a half sessions.
I don't know why I took this picture but I like this guy. I worked on the hand mending during conference to stay awake (it worked!) and he stayed busy next to me looking at buttons.
One day Callie had a spare 20 minutes in between school, teaching piano lessons, and heading off to work for the evening. She ran to the neighbor's house and picked up the guitar that they offered to give her back in June. The plan is to learn how to play it so she can play/sing a song for her audition for the Music Therapy program at USU, sometime in January.
P.S. Her t-shirt is from her first concert that she attended the week before with friends - Twenty One Pilots. She said it was awesome.
Doing the laundry for boys can be a little gross and random. This stuff (dirt included) came out of the pockets during one sorting session.
First day of school selfie: Emmie and I after we got home from my second day teaching and her first day of attending preschool. She has wanted to go back just about every day since then.
Lastly, while we are very thankful that the road in front of our house remains intact, having the rest of our road look like this is starting to get old. The project was supposed to go through August. In September we experienced our phone/internet line being cut - twice, the electricity was knocked out once, and this past week at least we had notice that the water was being shut off from 8am-4pm one day. It will be nice when I can zip down our street again and shave a few minutes off our commute time anywhere. In the meantime, our kids still love to watch the huge construction equipment that is in front of our house every day, and they love it when Daddy is driving (especially to church) and he braves the crazy road which at times has been impassable and we've had to turn around. It is also fun to walk over and see the progress - a couple days ago we ran out after dinner as dusk was closing in and tried out the new sidewalk to the east of us. Access to the park has been super fun, too.
