Drew's First Visit from the Tooth Fairy

Drew has been wiggling his first loose tooth for awhile.  But the wiggling got more challenging as his permanent tooth started to grow in right behind the baby tooth.  This happened with an older sister and the dentist let things take their course, so when it was time for cleanings I wasn't expecting the dentist to do things any differently.  Drew was super excited to have the dentist pull out his tooth - just like in the Berestain Bear's book - so for his sake I hoped it would happen, too.  I was still surprised when the dentist agreed that we ought to pull it - and did right then - and even more surprised when I saw the root on this thing.  I don't think it would have come out on its own.  This is what happens when the permanent tooth does not come up directly under under the baby tooth, and thus only part of the root dissolved.

Here is the brave, happy boy

And here is the letter he left for the tooth fairy.  He really wanted to take his tooth to show his beloved school teacher, and we assured him that it would be okay for him to keep the tooth for a day and then leave it for the tooth fairy the next night.  Only he wanted to keep his tooth AND get money - "only 10 dollars".  I love this boy!  I guess the tooth fairy does, too since he got to keep his tooth and also received a small remuneration.

P.S. Remember to never schedule dentist's appointments for the first week after the holidays are over again.
